The Council of Economics Educators (CECON) was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1997 but conceptualized as early as 1996 with Dr. Ruben Nayve Jr, Department Chair, School of Commerce of St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) as the Founding President. Among the pioneering member schools aside from SSC include University of Santo Tomas, Colegio San Juan de Letran and San Beda College.

CECON was formed in order to provide the needs of faculty teaching Economics in both secondary and tertiary levels through the enhancement of their pedagogical skills by attending seminars, workshops, trainings, fora and related activities. Being a partner-institution of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (Deped), Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business (PCDEB) and other professional and industry associations, CECON has been in the forefront of providing its member and non-member schools relevant seminars, workshops, trainings, for the past years since its inceptions in 1997.

To date the Council has more than 50 schools as its member schools all over the country. Its board officers and members are faculty and administrators of various colleges and universities in the country. First, is the Members’ Forum which is normally given in the first semester after opening of classes. It serves as a venue for faculty, students and prominent key personalities to have exchange of ideas on economic issues that affect the country; second, is the Seminar on Teaching Economics where we invite faculty experts from secondary and tertiary levels to discuss strategies and methods in teaching economics; third, is the National Conference where both students and faculty in Economics have the chance to listen to very relevant issue that may affect economics education in the country; and lastly, the Economic Outlook where we listen to the forecast of the economy by famous economists from various sectors. Recently, CECON introduced the Mid-Year National Conference where it provides seminars and workshops on current economic issues and pedagogy.
